About this site

This is an independent education project that explains the Hong Kong Government's budget in plain language: where the money comes from, where it goes, and what changed from last year.

Not a government website

This site has no connection with the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and does not use its emblems. It only quotes documents and data the Government has published. If anything here differs from the official documents, the official documents are right.

Privacy

  • The calculator runs in your browser. The tax or income you enter is not sent to a server and is never put in the page address. It is kept in this browser tab while you switch language, and cleared when you close the tab.
  • We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics. Cloudflare says it uses no cookies and does not track individual visitors.
  • Cloudflare's bot protection runs a small script to tell people from automated programs, and may set a security cookie.
  • There are no ads and no other tracking; even the fonts are served by this site.
  • Like every website, the hosting service receives standard connection details (such as IP address, the page requested and the browser type) to deliver pages and prevent abuse.
  • When you follow a source link to a government document, your browser does not tell that site you came from here.
